Youth and Intervention
PROJECT SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD

Project Safe Neighborhood is a community outreach program to enhance partnership for safer neighborhoods and reduce gun violent crime in the communities. This year events were mostly target in the Unionville neighborhood, which had an increase of gun violence crime related incidents. The first event for the year was the partnership with other communities in the Martin Luther King March. Three hundred (300) Unionville's concerned citizen participated in the march carrying Project Safe Neighborhood banner to show support for the cause.

Project Safe Neighborhood has initiated four (4)- program throughout the year for the Unionville Community. Programs such as: Career Fairs, preparing for success, neighborhood cleanup, and a community block party to give crime a going away party. Unionville citizens have increased their participation 50% since the PSN have been very active in their community.

Project Safe Neighborhood along with the different partners came together and sponsored a citywide "Youth Gun Safety Awareness Day". At this event two hundred (200) concerned citizen from across the city attended. Mr. George Muhammad was the quest speaker he gave a very informative lecture on gun violence as it relate to youth. The youth were also challenged to go back to their different communities and spread the good news about non-violence solutions. The officers at Youth and Intervention facilitated the event and pass out gun safety locks to participants. Events like this one are needed to help reduce the gun violence in all neighborhoods. This year there have been two (2) city wide events scheduled the "Santa in The Park event is schedule for December 16,2005 we are expecting fifth-teen (1500) hundred children to participate.
