PAL (Police Athletic /Activity League) mission is to prevent/ reduce crime and violence among youth within the age group of 9-12 by utilizing a recreation-oriented program that relies on positive interaction between law enforcement and youth, while participating in constructive alternative. Currently, PAL is operating citywide; there are a total of four hundred and thirty-four (434) children that are enrolled in the PAL Program. Major PAL Programs are basketball, golf, NFL Flag Football, Tennis and this year we plan on rehashing the "Go Girl Go", where fifty (50) young ladies learn personal safety training as well as other life skill improvement for females. Twelve (12) students will be enrolled in the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA), which computer training will be taught to enhance their computer skill.
AmeriCorps partners with the PAL Coordinator in providing activities for the youth 10-17. Each office enrolls 50 youth and keeps a file with a picture when possible on the youth. These activities include basketball, football, golf, and tennis. Cadets also serve as chaperone during special events such as Basketball and DARE Camps, Mercer basketball games, and Spring Break field trip. Cadets assist with the PAY Academy , an educational component of PAL , tutoring, and mentoring programs with the neighborhood schools and homework/snack program in the office.
