MEMBER DEVELOPMENT

Each cadet is issued an AmeriCorps gray signature t-shirt, BDU pants and boots as their official uniform dress. Because majority of our cadets are young people, we encourage and plan training centered to develop them both in their personal and professional development. The Neighborhood Patrol Officer provides 85% of training. Training includes orientation of the AmeriCorps Program, professional disposition, and stress management, CPR and first aid certification class. Cadets attend one overnight retreat where we bring in a trainer to review and rejuvenate them on their yearly commitment of service. Several cadets has completed the program, and joined the department as a sworn officer. AmeriCorps cadets are task to complete 1700 hours of service to earn their educational award. Higher education is encouraged from staff to the national level.

In conclusion, Macon Police Department AmeriCorps Cadet Program continues to strive to improve the quality of life in high crime/low income neighborhoods.
