AMERICORPS BIKE PATROL



Each cadet is assigned a bike in their office and where they maintain daily maintenance. Officers and cadets patrol their neighborhoods 4 hours a day (2 hours in the morning and afternoon Monday thru Thursday). Currently, Neighborhood Patrol Officers and cadets are serving only two days in the assigned neighborhood because of shortage of police officers. During bike patrol cadets gets to know their community by interacting with the seniors, youth and overall residents of the neighborhood (checking on seniors, passing out flyers, and patrolling to neighborhood schools. Bike patrol is an additional set of eyes and ears for the Police Department they monitor the neighborhood during patrol for any suspicious activities. They also carry a note pad with them to notate abandoned lots and properties or other information that's needs to be logged during patrol. Bike patrol is also used for crowd control during citywide activities and a deterrence tools for daytime crime activities.
