MACON POLICE DEPARTMENT AMERICORPS CADET PROGRAM

The Mission of the Macon Police Department Americorps Cadet Program is geared toward enhancing public safety and strengthening our communities in high crime low-income areas, and increase civic responsibility through a neighborhood-based crime prevention strategy, developed by the Macon Police Department. AmericCorps Cadets (members) serve under the direct supervision of an experienced Neighborhood Police Officer (NPO). AmeriCorps Cadets partner with neighborhood residents and performs non-law enforcement activities such as:

  • Operating a Neighborhood Crime Prevention Office
  • Patrolling an assigned neighborhood on bicycle
  • Conducting Crime Prevention meeting with neighborhood residents
  • Analyzing and testing solutions to neighborhood problems
  • Making security checks on homes within an assigned neighborhood
  • Conducting telephone and in-person interviews and surveys
  • Operating After-School Homework centers
  • Operating Seniors and Lawmen Together (SALT) Programs with senior residents
  • Operating Police Athletic League ( PAL ) Programs with older at-risk youth
  • Operating Police Academy for Youth (PAY) Programs with at-risk youth
  • Organizing neighborhood clean-ups and beautification activities with neighborhood residents
  • Operating a Drug Education for Youth Program (DEFY)

The four components to the Americorps Program are Bike Patrol, Member Development, PAL Youth, Seniors "R U OK" Program.
