CENTRAL RECORDS

The Central Records Unit maintains all records generated by the Police Department. These records include criminal incident reports, arrest and booking reports, arrest photographs, traffic accident reports, and miscellaneous incident reports. This unit is also responsible for entering all data generated by the field officers and detectives for use by the Crime Analysis Unit and other departments.

Members of the public and nongovernmental agencies may obtain copies of Police Department reports and several other frequently required services (i.e. fingerprinting, background checks and expungement processing) from this unit. A small fee is charged for copies and services.

* * Please note that fingerprinting service is provided by appointment or walk-in; however, appointments are preferred. Walk-ins are handled around appointments, time permitting and may require a wait. Please call (478) 751-7550 to schedule an appointment.

EXPUNGEMENTS:

Effective January 1, 2007 and pursuant to O.C.G.A. 35-4-37 (d) a $15.00 Processing Fee will be due from the requestor upon submission of the Expungement Application. Upon notification of approval a $35.00 Approval Fee must be received from the requestor. Once this fee is received the agency shall forward the request to the Criminal History Division of GCIC for removal from the state database. All fees are payable via Cash or Money Order.

TYPES OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED:

Cash or money orders (no checks) please note that our Cashiers are unable to accept large bills.

PICKING UP REPORTS:

When coming in person to pick up a report from our office, please have your case number available so the staff can assist you quickly and efficiently. Please allow a minimum of 48-72 hours for the processing of all accident and crime reports. It is considered time efficient to call in advance and verify that your report has been submitted and is available for pick up.

CAN A REPORT BE MAILED OR FAXED?

Reports can be mailed or faxed to a business, provided the business has an established account in good standing with the department. To set up an account for your business please contact the Director of Central Records.

Reports can be mailed to INDIVIDUALS only after the individual has forwarded a request with a money order or cashier check to the attention of Central Records Unit. Mailed requests are completed within 2 to 3 business days.

Reports cannot be faxed to individuals.
