The following are only part of our local ordinances. Please see Chapter 5 of the City Codes to update yourself on all local ordinances pertaining to animals within the City of Macon.

LICENSE

If you live within the limits of the City of Macon your animal MUST HAVE A CITY LICENSE.

Please do not confuse this with the State required Rabies license.

SEC. 5.5

(A) No person shall own, keep or harbor any dog or cat within the limits of the City unless the dog or cat is licensed by the City under the provision of this Chapter.

In order to purchase your license you must bring or mail a copy of your updated Rabies Certificate and the fee to the Animal Shelter or City Finance.

The license must be renewed annually.

License Fees are as follows:

Spayed or Neutered Animals (You must provide proof) $8.00

Animals that are not spayed or neutered $30.00

RESTRAINING

If you live in the City limits of Macon you must keep your animal restrained at all times.

SEC. 5-7

(A)  The owner of any licensed or permitted animal shall be responsible for maintaining control of that animal at all times so as not to be a danger to the person or property of others, or constitutes a nuisance.

Please note: This means your animal can't run loose without you at any time.
